If you're using Windows, you may find that your browser prefers to
download mp3s rather than stream them. This can be annoying on
our site since it can easily take twenty minutes to download
an entire set.
The problem is usually that Windows Media Player is not
your system's default mp3 player. It streams and most other media players
do not. Apple QuickTime is pretty good at making itself your default,
especially if your machine also has iTunes on it.
To fix this, open Windows Media Player, click the down arrow under "Now Playing,"
pick More Options > File Types, UNCHECK the box next to "mp3 audio file," click
the "Apply" button, then CHECK the very same box, and apply it again.
If that didn't do the trick, open QuickTime, go to Preferences > File Types,
de-select everything you can, then click "Apply."
Still not working? Right-click a random mp3 on your machine, select Properties,
and make sure it says "Opens With Windows Media Player." If that isn't the case,
click the "Change" button and make it so.
You have one last hope if it's still screwed up. Go into IE to Tools >
Internet Options > Programs > Manage Add-Ons, select anything that begins
with "QuickTime" and click "Disable."
You should be good to go now, but if not, the Casual Distractions are not
responsible for any damage to your computer. You did read this entire page
first, right?
Good luck and happy streaming.
